There are several good books with
information about whitewater in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. These
include:
Willamette Kayak and Canoe Club (1994). Soggy Sneakers - A Guide to Oregon Rivers. Seattle, WA: The Mountaineers. Cassady, J., Cross, B., & Calhoun, F. (1994). Western Whitewater - From the Rockies to the Pacific. Berkeley, CA: North Fork Press. Quinn, J.W., Quinn, J.M. (1983). Handbook to the Klamath River Canyon. Redmond, OR: Educational Adventures. Additional Information: The managing agency for the Lower Klamath is Klamath National Forest, 1312 Fairlane Rd, Yreka, CA 96097, (530) 842-6131. Below Somes Bar the river is managed by the Six Rivers National Forest, 507 F. St, Eureka, CA 95501, (707) 442-1721. The Klamath River runs through the low coastal mountains of Northern California and the weather is typically outstanding. In the summer and fall the area is dry and hot with occasional cool, rainy periods. When boating and camping please be prepared for temperatures into the 90's in the summer and 70's and 80's in the fall. Always bring rain gear and a tent. |
